Honestly, transitioning into the year 2020 wasn't such a big deal to me - not till I had a sudden, sad, realisation at 1:00 am of New Year's eve that I would become an adult, and would have to make life decisions - and that lasted for a few minutes before I went to sleep and forgot all about it.
But that's not the point of this post. In this post, I want to talk about something I have always heard about , yet never really followed through. It is often said that one should shoot with a purpose in order for their photographs to turn out good.
Heres an example:
“A lot of photographers think that if they buy a better camera they’ll be able to take better photographs. A better camera won’t do a thing for you if you don’t have anything in your head or in your heart.”

Well, I never really understood the meaning until I recently went out to shoot with my friends over a catch-up session. I wasn't exactly feeling any inspiration that particular day, but since we were heading to Chinatown, I felt that I might as well get some shots in. However, I made minimal effort in framing the shots well and after looking through the photos, I felt that they lacked emotions and life in them. It was kind of disheartening seeing how the photos turned out, but I still enjoyed some of the shots.
Oh, another thing about shooting without a purpose is that I get a mash up of photos which are unrelated and all over the place, which doesn't look good for collages.
But heres what I shot: a roll of Kodak Ultramax 400 (bought at 9 dollars from 8storeytree) and a roll of Kodak Gold 200 (bought at 7 dollars from Fotohub), which I unfortunately did not read the box properly and accidentally bought one with 24 exposures instead of 36. I ended up really liking the colours on the Kodak Gold.
Here are some photos shot with the Ultramax 400
I liked the gloomy clouds
This photograph actually gives a panoramic feel but this is how the buildings actually look like. Would have looked nicer without the truck on the left.
I liked how the colours turned out for this one, but the cars could have been positioned better.
Here's the "mash-up" collage with the CNY vibes
The photos below were taken with the Kodak Gold 200.
I'll definitely be shooting more with the Kodak Gold in the future, but for now, I'm waiting for my Kodak Portra 400 rolls to arrive ( hopefully before CNY ends ). Also school is starting soon and I hope I will be able to squeeze in time between my studies to go out for shoots.
Side Note: This site is pretty limited in terms of font sizes and the ways that I can organise the pictures, but the photos can be enlarged on the phone by simply clicking on it!
Cheers, Annora :)
